Paris Panthéon Poster – Rue Soufflot Perspective

At the end of a street of pale golden stone, the portico and dome of the Panthéon stand out beneath a blue-grey sky. Buildings and street lamps guide the eye upwards, while a few pedestrians give the scene a human scale. This Paris Panthéon poster is built around a sharply defined vanishing line.

The street leads the way to the dome

The monument is not isolated as it might be on a postcard. It emerges between two rows of façades after the eye has followed the shadows on the ground and the recurring street lamps. Ochre and pale stone tones concentrate the light on the architecture; the blue sky gives the upper part room to breathe. The approach makes the perspective feel almost physical, as though you were taking a few steps towards the portico.

The two rows of street lamps extend the alignment of the façades towards the dome. They give the perspective its momentum rather than the precision of a street plan. The image evokes Rue Soufflot through this route towards the Panthéon: the drawing's strength lies in the way a recognisable monument appears at the end of an urban walk.

A horizon line for a study or entrance hall

Hung near a desk, the perspective extends the space beyond the wall. In an entrance hall, it creates the impression of walking along a street rather than simply looking at a façade. Its restrained colours also suit a living room with natural materials, where the monument provides a fixed point without dominating the whole decor.

The eye reaches the Panthéon through the city: this simple detour gives the poster the character of a walk.
