Nasturtiums – Gustave Caillebotte Canvas Print

Round leaves suspended against a mauve ground

In Caillebotte’s Nasturtiums, slender stems and round leaves form a light botanical pattern. Offered as a digital print on canvas, this reproduction pairs a greyish mauve background with soft and stronger greens. A few orange flowers punctuate the network of stems. There is neither vase nor horizon: the plant and the spaces around it make up the entire image.

The leaves gather on the right, then scatter towards the left, leaving broad areas of the coloured ground visible. This botanical asymmetry avoids the effect of a centrally placed bouquet. The stems connect the shapes without enclosing them; the eye moves from a small flower to a cluster of leaves, with pauses between each group.

A bedroom in unbleached linen, mauve and soft green

Above a chest of drawers, the vertical canvas brings a delicate background colour without relying on a wide landscape. Pair it with unbleached linen and a single shade of green in the cushions or curtains. A small orange note on a book or ceramic piece can recall the flowers without disturbing the room’s softness.

In the dining room, Caillebotte’s Nasturtiums sits easily alongside pale furniture and a plain tablecloth. Its airy rhythm leaves pauses between the groups of leaves, even when the table is laid. The mauve spaces matter as much as the foliage: they give the pattern its lightness and bring out the small, vivid flowers.

Caillebotte’s nasturtiums draw their shapes across the wall

Around 1892, Gustave Caillebotte used the round leaves and freely moving stems to create an image poised between decorative pattern and botanical observation. This play of shapes brings soft colour to a bedroom reading corner. Alongside other subjects in our reproductions of famous paintings, the nasturtiums retain their lightness: a few bright flowers and plenty of space in which to rest the eyes.
