Pierre-Auguste Renoir painted this gathering in 1880–1881 on the terrace of the Maison Fournaise in Chatou. The work joins group portraiture, still life and an outdoor view in one relaxed moment emblematic of Impressionism. Aline Charigot in the foreground and Gustave Caillebotte seated on the right are notably recognisable, without the scene losing its spontaneity.
