Japanese Parasol Poster in Red, Ivory and Indigo

Three parasols overlap in radiating circles

The large red parasol enters from the left, hiding part of the other two. Above it, the ivory disc opens a pale area; at the lower right, indigo restores depth. Fine spokes radiate from each centre, leading the eye out to the edges. This Japanese parasol poster takes a view from above: no people or street are visible, only three overlapping circular forms.

The sage-green background, patterned with leaves, keeps the parasols from floating in a plain void. Its motifs are quieter than the spokes, allowing red and ivory to dominate at first glance. The illustration suggests wagasa-style parasols without certifying the construction or materials of a real accessory. What is offered is a poster, not a set of parasols.

A rhythm of red and indigo on a pale wall

In a living room, the three circles can answer straight-lined furniture or plain cushions. The broad red area provides a clear colour accent, while the indigo below keeps the composition from becoming a purely floral decoration. In a study, the spokes encourage your eye to travel from one centre to another; despite their number, the three distinct colours keep the image easy to read.

The portrait format gathers these broad shapes without reducing them to a repeated pattern. The overlap of the three parasols is the real subject: a warm geometry drawn from depicted objects, with a character that remains clear both up close and from a distance.
