Composition with Leaf by Fernand Léger – Canvas Print

An ivory leaf cuts through the vertical composition

A long ivory leaf crosses the centre between a veined black form, a red panel and cylindrical elements. Fernand Léger’s Composition with Leaf enlarges the botanical motif until it has the strength of a column. The deep-blue background sharpens its silhouette, while a supple rope winds near the base. Each object appears isolated, yet the vertical bands bring them together in a precise, remarkably decorative order.

Botanical balance between blue, red and black

The elongated height creates an elegant presence between botany and abstraction. Against a white wall, the blue gains depth; beside walnut furniture, the red and brown tones grow warmer. This still life sits easily near a bookcase, in a hallway or in a study because it suggests plant life without adopting the conventions of floral illustration. Its crisp construction suits modern rooms, while the painted texture retains a gentle sensitivity.

The 1928 still life brings plant and architecture together

Dated 1928, this version of Composition with Leaf reveals Léger’s organic explorations through motifs observed at close range. Every botanical form, object and graphic sign now occupies the same imaginative space. A canvas reproduction restores the presence of the dark veins, dense blue and soft cream transitions. Their dialogue remains subtle despite the powerful contrasts. Refined and distinctive, the canvas print of Fernand Léger’s Composition with Leaf is immediately recognisable.
