Bauhaus Cutout Shapes Poster – Cobalt and Rust

Windows of colour within two broad planes

On the left, a rust-coloured plane rises through almost the full height. On the right, cobalt blue answers it, slightly offset, with a more pronounced triangular cutout at its base. Rectangular and oblique openings reveal the ivory and sky blue background. In this Bauhaus poster with cobalt blue and rust geometric shapes, the solid areas and empty spaces play equal parts in the image.

A mustard triangle placed in front of the two broad planes gives the eye a place to stop. It lends scale to the shapes and prevents your gaze from getting lost in the verticals. The whole evokes sheets of cut paper or abstract façades, but remains a flat illustration: the “perforations” belong to the drawing, and the poster itself is not cut through.

Colourful geometry without visual overload

The rust and cobalt contrast can enliven a living room with neutral walls while keeping an orderly outline. Above a low piece of furniture, the vertical format adds visual height; in a study, it gives a work corner personality without distracting you with a multitude of details. Sky blue within the openings lightens the broad areas of colour, while ivory gives the eye pauses.

You can pair this poster with pale wood or darker materials: both combinations draw on colours actually present in the image. Up close, each opening offers a slightly different relationship between foreground and background. From a distance, the two coloured masses hold their place on the wall. This double reading, first simple and then more attentive, gives the image its decorative strength.
