A Bar at the Folies-Bergère Canvas Print – Édouard Manet

A composed barmaid amid the mirror's bustle

Behind a counter laden with bottles, flowers and oranges, a young barmaid looks straight ahead while the mirror opens onto a room full of spectators. Manet's A Bar at the Folies-Bergère canvas print plays on this contrast between silent presence and glittering crowd. The black of the dress, the silvery reflections and the orange touches create a scene both sumptuous and enigmatic, with every detail inviting another look.

Deep black, glass and light for a confident living room

This structured horizontal format suits a large living-room wall, a dining room or a study furnished with fine materials. A greige, smoky blue or deep green background brings out the face and the pale marble of the counter. Walnut, velvet and brass extend the atmosphere without turning the room into a brasserie set. Hung above a low cabinet, the band of bottles and fruit adds rhythm while allowing the central figure to remain dominant.

Modern Paris painted by Manet in 1882

Completed in 1882 and held at the Courtauld Gallery, this work is one of Édouard Manet's major images of Parisian life. The deliberately disorienting reflection, the customer in a hat and the depth of the room reinvent the café-concert scene. The canvas reproduction maintains the contrasts, flashes of glass and softness of the bouquet. This canvas print of A Bar at the Folies-Bergère is an iconic, elegant and narrative piece for an interior with character.
