In a scarlet sky, this canvas of red ibises in flight captures a flock as it crosses the entire frame. The largest bird glides through the upper third with wings spread, while two ibises rise from below and a cropped silhouette enters from the left. Their long, curved beaks make the birds immediately recognisable as ibises. Farther away, other birds merge into a sky of red, coral and pale pink.

Differences in scale create aerial depth: the foreground feathers remain detailed, then the forms become more diffuse in the atmosphere. An ascending diagonal connects each wingbeat and gives the panorama its continuous momentum. This painterly interpretation favours movement and colour over naturalistic observation or a precise migration location.
