Houses in Provence: The Riaux Valley near L’Estaque – Paul Cézanne

Ochre façades on the Riaux hills

The reproduction of Houses in Provence: The Riaux Valley near L’Estaque by Cézanne places a cluster of pale buildings at the heart of terraced hills. Their yellow and cream walls, topped with terracotta roofs, form a geometric core between the green slopes, pale stones and blue sky.

The diagonal brushstrokes follow the contours of the land, lending the scene a quiet energy. A dark tree stands to the right of the houses without obscuring them; stone walls and cultivated terraces naturally guide the eye towards the Provençal farmhouse. This composition blends sunlit architecture with structured nature in perfect clarity.

A luminous Provence in harmony with natural materials

The greens, beiges and ochres sit effortlessly alongside oak, linen, ceramic or a sand-coloured wall. In the living room, the horizontal format unfolds the landscape behind a sideboard. In a study, the clean volumes of the houses bring order, while the subtle hues of the slope keep the scene vibrant.

In an entrance hall, the oblique lines create immediate movement. A medium size preserves the intimate balance of the scene; a larger format reveals more of the colour shifts between terraces, rocks and façades. The palette remains bright without becoming overpowering.

The Riaux Valley in its most mineral form

Here, the Riaux Valley stands apart from L’Estaque’s maritime views: no sweeping sea horizon, but dry hills and architecture firmly rooted in the slope. The National Gallery of Art in Washington holds the original work. This reproduction of Houses in Provence: The Riaux Valley near L’Estaque by Cézanne faithfully captures its precise identity.

It will appeal to lovers of Provençal landscapes, constructive lines and natural colours. A serene canvas that warms the room and offers enough detail to invite fresh appreciation every day.
