Four-Colour Afro Portrait Pop Art Poster

One face, four ways to read its colours

The portrait repeats in a two-by-two grid. The woman with afro hair keeps her expression and hairstyle, but each quarter gives her a different presence: coral, purple, yellow and turquoise change how we see her features. This four-colour pop art portrait poster does not depict four different characters. It explores what happens to one face when background, skin tones and shadows exchange their roles in the palette.

Black contours keep the eyes, nose and lips recognisable from one panel to the next. The flat colours are not random effects; they establish a rhythm. You can first take in the repetition, then stop over the differences between the faces. The close crop leaves out a setting, and there are no printed words to guide your interpretation. Colour does the work, balancing the regular grid with the energy of each combination.

A grid that gives a colourful wall structure

In a living room, the motif can bring direction to an already colourful palette without imposing a single shade. In an understated study, it creates four points of interest within one image, allowing your eye to move naturally from panel to panel. Despite the grid inside it, the poster remains in portrait format, with room around the repeated face.

The appeal is as graphic as it is figurative: the subject is immediately recognisable, but the variations invite another look. It brings rhythm and colour into the room without a quotation, a named character or a biographical reference. Repetition is not about making each panel identical; it reveals the differences that make them interesting.
