Two players with outstretched arms take centre stage in an arrangement of portraits, newspaper fragments and coloured surfaces. This British Pop Art canvas print uses the visual language of graphic collage: black and cream sporting figures stand against red, yellow and petrol-blue bands.

Football figures inside a densely layered collage

The characters overlap and cross the edges of the rectangles. Behind them, silhouettes, patterns and pieces of text fill almost the entire surface. Bold colours keep their strength, while small marks and irregular cut-outs give the design the appearance of an old printed document reworked into a new composition.

The horizontal design brings sport together with retro graphics. From across the room, the players' gestures are the clearest feature; closer up, smaller fragments come into view. The portraits are not presented as identified people, nor is the scene assigned to a particular match.
