A Balcony, Boulevard Haussmann – Caillebotte Canvas Print

Wrought iron above Boulevard Haussmann

Paris is seen from an upper floor in Caillebotte’s A Balcony, Boulevard Haussmann. This reproduction of the scene is digitally printed on canvas. In the foreground, the dark railing unfurls its scrolls. Behind the wrought iron, trees line the boulevard and Haussmann-era façades follow one another beneath blue-grey roofs. A pinkish-beige sky surrounds this urban perspective.

The balustrade is close, almost within reach, while the street recedes between the buildings. This contrast between dark curves and pale stone façades gives the image its rhythm: we look through the ornament, then beyond the leaves. Soft outlines and touches of colour make the city less rigid than its architecture might suggest.

Stone tones to welcome people into the hall

In an entrance hall, a black console table or an understated mirror can echo the railing. The painting’s beiges work with cream walls and pale stone; muted greens add a touch of foliage without dominating the setting. The vertical format follows the height of a door and gives the entrance a view into the city.

Caillebotte’s A Balcony, Boulevard Haussmann also works in an uncluttered living room. Avoid surrounding it with small, highly contrasting patterns: the scrolls already fill the foreground. Plain upholstery and a few simple lines give the boulevard the depth it needs to carry the gaze onwards.

Caillebotte and the elegance of Parisian rooftops

Gustave Caillebotte brings the balcony’s ornament into conversation with rooflines and the soft masses of the trees. Here Paris is seen from a familiar place, with the city viewed from above as an everyday horizon. This view joins our famous paintings reproduced on canvas. It carries an appreciation for handsome façades into the entrance hall, where the scrolls first welcome the eye before letting it travel towards the roofs.
